Job Title: Program Chief Engineer

Location: Herndon, VA

Salary Range: $200,000 - $250,000 annually

Job Summary We are seeking a Program Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership for a diverse portfolio of laser systems, LIDAR sensors, and laser communication technologies for military and space applications. You will serve as the ultimate technical authority for major program decisions and the primary technical liaison to customers, guiding the development and delivery of first-of-kind systems. Opportunities span fast-paced spaceflight technologies and instruments, including Space LADAR, Earth-sensing LIDAR, and Fiber Laser systems.

Essential Job Duties

  • Lead the technical development and successful delivery of laser-based systems critical to defense and space exploration.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers and mission partners.
  • Ensure full compliance with all technical performance, environmental, and functional requirements.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of multidisciplinary engineers and scientists (laser physics, electro-optics, systems engineering, etc.).
  • Drive major technical decisions, including architecture development, design trades, anomaly resolution, and system verification.
  • Guide teams through major milestone reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.).
  • Partner with Program Managers to develop achievable execution plans and drive the adoption of engineering best practices.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant engineering or applied-science field.
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional experience, including demonstrated success leading large, diverse technical teams.
  • Industry Knowledge: Proven experience engineering, qualifying, and delivering electro-optical systems for US space and/or military applications.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge in laser systems, LIDAR sensors, optical communication systems, and/or aerospace system qualification.
  • Tools: Familiarity with industry-standard engineering tools (MBSE, circuit simulation, thermal/structural analysis, optical design, etc.).
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to concisely articulate complex technical solutions and maturation plans.
  • Clearance: US Citizenship and eligibility to obtain a US Security Clearance are required.
